That about sums up the process. The process is predictably unpredictable as year to year priorities changes. There is a difference between being a good student and a good applicant.

    Keep in mind that if you get rejected, that doesn't mean you're unqualified. Just not perceived as a fit. Don't worry, you'll go to a college, get a job, and have a good life. Just don't forget your work ethic and what you stand for.

    I’m always curious how often schools talk to high school talk to their students about community college options. I think Mia college is a great option especially if you didn’t do so well academically in high school give me a college could be that opportunity to kind of make up for that and you get that AA degree you can transfer to a four-year university. In some cases you don’t even have to penis you’re a degree. If you just wanna do a year of college and just do really well academically, you don’t earn 30 or 40 credit that will sometimes get you into a university. Economically can you give me a call just a great way to go. Also, give me a call just can increase your chances of getting into the college that Steve generally difficult to get into a straight out of high school.

    The vast majority of college level material could be put on a database of lectures, books, quizzes and exams could be proctored at public libraries or high schools in the evening. The advantage of a classroom is the momentum of covering the material, that can be recreated by zoom like technology. This could be done for free. No more of this exclusion of opportunities, it is oppression.

    Why aren't the applications run through a computer algorithm instead of this highly subjective and unreasonable process?

    • @ellasteciuk3353
      @ellasteciuk3353 2 роки тому

      Elite colleges like Grinnell have so many high-qualified applicants that it is impossible to have an objective admissions criteria. Princeton, for example, stated a few years ago that 80% of applicants were considered “well-qualified” (which, for an applicant from a standard public school, would be an unweighted GPA of 3.8 or higher and an SAT Score of 1400 or higher) but they can only offer admission to 6% of them, as there are a limited number of spots in each class.

    Insane people stressing and killing themselves for the honor to pay 80K a year to attend university.

    • @ellasteciuk3353
      @ellasteciuk3353 2 роки тому

      As a student who attends one of these elite colleges, the main benefit of attending these schools is not the education; it is the networking. It is much harder for certain industries (particularly the high-paying ones, such as consulting and investment banking) to get the internships you need to break into the industry after graduation if you do not attend one of these schools, and it is also much harder to get into certain graduate programs if you do not attend one of these schools. Medical schools and law schools are exceptions, as you can definitely get into a top medical school or law school by doing really well at a state flagship university. However, for many Ph.D. programs (including the area in which I intend to get my Ph.D.), you almost need to attend a top undergraduate institution to get a Ph.D. One MIT Professor in my field even went as far as to say that your connections and prestige of the undergrad institution you attended (which often go hand in hand) are so important, that GPA is more of a “secondary factor” in admission. Out of roughly 200-250 students in the top 10 Ph.D. programs in my field each year, there will usually only be 5 who did not attend elite undergraduate institutions. Also, prestige is typically the most important factor in choosing a Ph.D. program, because the more prestigious the institution you get your Ph.D. from, the more likely you are to obtain a tenure-track professorship (which is the goal of most Ph.D. candidates).

    Compared to Year 2000 the College Admissios system is now corrupted. SAT Scores can be controlled and grades are sometimes within ones power. The only decider Is the Essay that one writes or the personal statement, Good grades are important but not everything. So how are foreign students evaluated by US Colleges. This Grinnell College Admissions Process Is really biased and unfair. Wits are what drives them plus money. The good side the SAT is a great equalizer like the A Levels of the UK.

    This was 7 yrs ago when the number of applicants wasn’t so huge as it is today. Top schools now get over 110,000 applications and they only spend 4-5 minutes on each application. It’s too subjective. And when they have to decide between 2 candidates, they will go with the student who can pay full or near full tuition. Sad it is all about money.

    Keep in mind, each university's process is not the same... the way they are rolling over this is a little inorganized and anxiety provoking. At most schools there is a single-couple officer who read your app from front to back and either recommend or not recommend for admit. Then they all get together and decide on the top ones. So what they are showing here is towards the end of the process where apps have all been read already.

    For the majority of students, this should be a sign of relief. This video showcases that college AOs truly are taking a holistic view of of their applicants. You want subjectivity in the college admissions process because they can take into account other aspects of your life that aren't simply told through your grade and test scores. Oh, you were raised in a single parent household and had to work 25 hours a week to support your family? College AOs will note that and understand that perhaps your grades won't be as strong. True meritocracy is hell. If you want to see what it's like to remove complete subjectivity from the college admissions process just search up china's gaokao or South Korea's Suneung and see what it's like for the students.

    • @nunyabusiness3938
      @nunyabusiness3938 3 роки тому

      @@kimjungun2770 In terms of job applications, there is far more to be taken account for besides the school one attends. Your additional skills, extra courses you’ve taken, people you’ve worked with, even things like how confident you appear during an interview are can determine if you make it into a high paying job. Also, keep in mind that while getting in an ivy leagues is a good accomplishment, there is a lot of competition in the student body which can make it hard to stand out in job applications. Therefore, even if you attend an average school, if you take extra courses, spend time on extracurriculars and hobbies, and gain some job experience, even if its the smallest job, that will allow you to gain a high paying job in the future.
